I had the fantastic opportunity to put together a Styled Shoot at the Yost Theater in Downtown Santa Ana back in August. The Yost is an old single screen movie theater and is over 100 years old. 24 Carrots took over, cleaned it up and restored it to it's vintage glory. It is now an event venue.
I really wanted to honor it's history for this design. I decided to go with a Classic 1930’s Hollywood Nightclub vibe. I included some Art Deco touches, which carried over from the 20’s.
To keep the design as authentic as possible, I turned to Etsy to pick up some actual 1930’s pieces. I also knew I had to find creative people who could help make this happen. I searched and hand-picked every one involved. Luckily for me, they trusted me and said yes! Even my fabulous couple said yes within 5 minutes! They were perfect! And being already a married couple, the love really shined!
Paper Moon Shoppe was amazing to work with. They designed a beautiful moon based on the Rockefeller Center. It even had an eye that opened and closed!! This moon is available for rent.
There were so many little details. I love “hidden Mickey's”. I had some special meanings hidden in this shoot. Those are my favorite.
When I put an event together I try to have unexpected elements. For this, there was an animated moon as a photo backdrop, a Big Band playing on the movie screen, Swing Dancers, authentic pieces from the 30’s, a Ticket Girl, and a very detailed Art Deco cake. I'm pretty proud of how we all pulled this together.
Now, please take a moment to enjoy the photos.
